The former UK ambassador to the US Peter Mandelson was arrested Monday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, according to London’s Metropolitan Police.

British police have arrested the country’s former ambassador to the U.S. has following weeks of revelations over his relationship with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

An email from 2009 appears to show that Lord Mandelson passed on an assessment by an adviser to the then prime minister Gordon Brown about policy measures, including an "asset sales plan".
